FLX Tour announces new Dept. of Statistical Integrity (DSI)

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (FLX) — FLX Tour officials announced Thursday the creation of its new Department of Statistical Integrity (DSI), a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting fairness and transparency across all league events.

Sources say this new department will play a vital role in ensuring equitable competition by verifying and maintaining accurate handicaps for each player.

The DSI will monitor player performance and analyze data from the 18 Birdies app, the official app of the FLX Tour. Periodic reviews of app data will help identify any irregularities or patterns that could affect the integrity of the league’s handicap system. While the department will not have disciplinary powers, it will be empowered to make recommendations for penalties, suspensions, and other actions as necessary to uphold fairness.

The department’s core team includes Danny Driffs and Jesse Cramer, two experienced league members dedicated to the integrity of FLX Tour events. They will work closely with FLX Head of Numbers, Tim Dorsheimer, to ensure that statistical reviews are both thorough and impartial. The department will operate under the guidance of Rules Czar Joey Mortillaro, whose expertise in golf regulations will provide additional oversight.

“The FLX Tour has always been about bringing golfers together to compete in a spirit of camaraderie and integrity,” said Mortillaro. “The Department of Statistical Integrity is a natural extension of our mission to maintain a level playing field for all players. And if we can move a few ball markers here and there, all the better.”

“This initiative reflects our commitment to continuous improvement.,” FLX Tour Co-Commissioner Shane Driffill added. “By investing in statistical integrity, we’re ensuring that every member of the FLX Tour can trust the fairness of our competition and enjoy the game to its fullest.”

Officials say they encourage all members to support the department’s efforts by continuing to log accurate and honest scores in the 18 Birdies app.

Together, the league and its members can preserve the high standards that make FLX Tour events a premier experience for golfers across the region.

Officials also wanted to remind Tour pros to take the 2025 event date survey so we can start locking down our calendar.
