Meet the Pros: Mike Mortillaro

It’s that special time again …. we’re back with FLX Tour’s Meet the Pros!

We got a special one indeed on tap with Mike Mortillaro coming through! The FLX Tour rookie is already making waves, claiming his first major championship at the 2023 Churchville Classic, and boasting an impressive No. 6 ranking currently for Young Man of the Year. Not only is he a rising star on Tour, but also a proud public servant as an officer of the Rochester Police Department. Salute to you and let’s get to know him.

Name

— Mike Mortillaro

Birthday

— January 3, 1993 (year of the rooster)

FLX Tour Nickname

— Morty (smash)

How long can you hit your driver?

— Good day? 275. Most days? 155 with a slice that can cut tomatoes without damaging them.

What is your current handicap?

— 27.8*

*Editor’s Note: Sus?

Who is your FLX Tour rival?

— Shane Driff, he’s still mad I had more career points than him at the ridge for lax*

*Editor’s note: Not sure why Shane would be mad considering his twin brother Matt Driffill was the reigning all-time points leader upon graduation. Shane was a shooter though, no doubt about it. Gotta have eyes on 15 at all times.

What’s your favorite course?

— Lakeshore CC

What’s your least favorite course?

— I’d like to say Durand but that’s the hometown spot so I’ll go with any course that Shane enjoys*

*Editor’s note: Shane did say that Durand was his favorite course.

Which three people would you choose for your dream foursome?

— Bobby Berger, Jon Daly, Michael Jordan

What’s your dream achievement as an FLX Tour pro?

— To get a chance to play in the final round for the YMOTY, an absolute honor

What’s your career best score on 18 holes and what course was it?

— Didn’t really keep track much before this year (shoutout to 18 birdies*) so 97 at Lakeshore it is

*Editor’s note: 18 Birdies is the official app of the FLX Tour.

What advice would you give to any youngsters out there dreaming of one day playing on the Tour?

— You don’t have to be good, just have to be good enough

How would you rate your experience on the FLX Tour out of 10?

— 10/10

There you have it folks! Morty might be in his first year of the FLX Tour, but is already etching his name in the history books. He’ll look to continute to bolster his legacy THIS SUNDAY at the 2023 Genesee Invitational where him and his partner, Tom Deuire, are among the favorites to take home the title.

Note: Morty is also an organizer of an annual indepedent scramble golf tournament in which several FLX Tour Pros will participate. We should note however, it is not a tour.
