Grand Open field finalized, largest tourney in FLX Tour history

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (FLX) — The grandaddiest of ’em all just got grandaddier.

FLX officials announced Wednesday the finalized field for the 2025 Grand Open, the first major tournament of the year. With 44 young men competing, it’s the largest field in the Tour’s history.

“We’ve always said ‘Grow the game,’” FLX Tour Co-Commissioner Matt Driffill said. “Joy shared is joy multiplied, and it’s really special what we’re doing with our signature event this season.”

“Slow the game,” FLX Tour Co-Commissioner Shane Driffill replied. “These tournaments are long enough. Bell ringers we are still accepting, however.”

At FLX HQ, leadership is spinning the 44-man field — up from just eight chipper snappers four years ago in the Tour’s debut season — as a demonstration of the upward trajectory of the Tour’s potential (we’re look at you, Saudia Arabia).

“It’d be nice if all those guys would buy some merch,” FLX Tour Head of Content and Rules Czar Joey Mortillaro said.

The 2025 Grand Open will tee off on Saturday, May 31 at Durand Eastman Golf Course. This singles style tournament is perhaps the most prestigious event on the Tour’s annual calendar, and winning this one cements your place in history forever.

Notes from the rough

— Tee times and pairings will be announced the week of the event. As tradition for this tournament, players will be pulled from a hat at random.

— Hole 2 at Durand remains under construction. If on the day of the tournament, the hole is still being played as a short par 3, we will add two strokes to the total of each player’s score in the 18 Birdies app for scorekeeping. So if you got a 3, you would submit a 5. This is still being monitored closely, stay tuned for updates. We heard they put down some sod. Don’t get us started on turd river; we can’t right now.

— Entry for this tournament is $25, $20 of which goes to the prize pool and $5 for league maintenance and enhancements. Speaking of which, fancy customized new big check will be debuted at this event (see below). Payouts are looking like they will start at $500 for 1st, $250 for 2nd, $100 for 3rd, & $100 for closest to the pin challenge on hole 17 (with additional breakfast ball funds to juice those numbers).

— Elsewhere the rules will be consistent with our past events, and for those who are new, expect a rules guide from Czar Mortiscorelow the week of the event.

Even with the expanded field, every Tour pro has a chance in this one. Who’s going to make history — will it be you?
