FLX Tour named Rochester’s ‘Best Hobbyist Sports League’

ROCHESTER. N.Y. (FLX) — We’re number one! We’re number one!

FLX Tour officials announced Monday the league had received the distinguished honor of being named Rochester’s “Best Hobbyist Sports League” by CITY Magazine.

“We’re honored and humbled by this recognition,” said FLX Tour Co-Commissioner Matt Driffill. “Is this a real award? No. Will we still be cutting out the mention in the paper and framing it for FLX HQ? Yes. Yes we will.”

“It’s hard to imagine any Jane or John Doe walking off the street and earning a spot on the Red Wings bench. Established in 2022 by co-commissioners Matt and Shane Driffill, this group of local golfers has grown from 8 members to 40 and hosts four major tournaments each year. Dedicated to “Growing the Game,” the league hands out cash prizes to tournament winners (via giant checks). “I think they took some liberties with how open we are as far a new members,” FLX Tour Co-Commissioner Shane Driffill warned Monday morning. “Frankly these tournaments take long enough as is.”

While the idea of adding new players to the Tour is always a source of controversy among senior and charter memebrs, sources close to leadership say that the mantra of “Grow the Game” lives on into 2025 and that expansions are likely, if not inevitable.

“How else are we going to sell these ball markers?” FLX Tour Head of Content and Rules Czar Joey Mortillaro said. “I got a mountain of these motherfuckers in my kitchen still minghia.”
