ROCHESTER, N.Y. (FLX) — Hold on to your butts, folks. We are just two weeks away from the final major of the season, the FLX Cup.
The historic, third edition of this singles style tournament will feature 40 contestants, the largest field in FLX Tour history. The competition is set to take place on Saturday, October 5, at the Links at Greystone, with the first group teeing off at 7: 30 a.m.
FLX officials sent fans into a frenzy Friday morning when they released the official pairings and tee times for the tournament.
“We do random drawings for the Grand Open, Genesee Invitational, and Churchville Classic so, historically, the Cup is our chance to editorialize a bit,” said FLX Tour Co-Commissioner Matt Driffill. “We loosely base the groups on Young Man of the Year standings, but with some reorganizing for pace of play, and social aspects. We got rave reviews from this style of system selection last year, so we figured we’d run it back.”
“Don’t like your group or tee time? Pack it up. You stink, we don’t need you,” FLX Tour Head of Content and Rules Czar Joey Mortillaro said.
The 40-person field will feature a few new faces making their Tour debuts, proving that it’s never too late in the season to #GrowTheGame.
Also, the FLX Cup isn’t just for the trophy, but will also determine the winner of the 2024 Young Man of the Year.
Sean Sawyer — who came in second for the award in 2023 — has the inside track with strong performances in each major this season, but Shane Driffill, Chad Christ, and Grand Open winner Ryan Netchke could all mathematically wrestle the title away from Sawyer.
We’ll have to wait and find out. OK, back to work. Please forgive typos on names, it’s been a week for your boy.
