Teams, tee times posted for 2024 Genesee Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (FLX) — It’s major week for the FLX Tour with the 2024 Genesee Invitational going down this Sunday, August 25 at the world-famous Genesee Valley Golf Course, with the competition beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The tournament will feature the largest field ever for the FLX; 36 participants battling it out for glory and dinero in the annual two-man best-ball format, beating out this year’s Grand Open field of 35 for most in the Tour’s storied history.

The Genesee Invitational is famous for theatrics and drama, and leadership is expecting more of the same heading into the third major championship of the season.

“Historically, this is the tightest tournament every year, and we’re excited” FLX Tour Co-Commissioner Shane Driffill said. “With so many quality teams and pairings, we’re expecting nothing short of fireworks come Sunday.”

“I have nothing to do with the Morty Invitational this year, I just want that on the record,” said FLX Tour Head of Content and Rules Czar Joey “Ballmark” Mortillaro. “If you’re interested, all the info is on the flyer.”

Mortillaro was joined by Co-Commissioner Matt Driffill and Charter Member Gene Fererra Saturday at the Public Market for a live special of FLX Tour on Tour. There were many technical difficulties and it was not well received, but the end result was teams and tee times for the big day.

The drawing was split with half of the field with the lowest handicaps in one hat and the other half with the higher handicaps in the other to ensure an even playing field.

To further enhance the fairness of the tournament, FLX Tour officials announced that they will incorporate an 85% handicap for each participant, as is the USGA reccomended standard for a two-man best ball tournament.

The drawing was split with half of the field with the lowest handicaps in one hat and the other half with the higher handicaps in the other to ensure an even playing field.

To further enhance the fairness of the tournament, per USGA, two-man best ball handicaps will be applied at 85% of each pro’s current number when competition begins Sunday morning.

Last year, the Tour incorrectly used 90% handicaps for this tournament because they got their USGA recommednations mixed up based on stroke play versus match play. That one’s on us. Our bad. We can’t right now. We just can’t.

Tour leadership is reminding pros to send their tournament entry fee to their commissioners so they don’t need to be shamed each day on the Discord.

While scheduling remains a consistent thorn for pros and fans alike, Tour leadership reminds prospective youngsters that the FLX Cup is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024, with the first tee time at 7:30 a.m. Mark your calendars accordingly.
