FLX Tour adds 2 events for 2024: Commissioner’s Cup & Ott Shot Challenge

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (FLX) — We are back. We are so back. We are indubitably back.

Last you heard from us, the FLX Tour was wrapping up a monumental second season in October with the crowning of our innaugural Young Man of the Year. With 2023 in the rear view mirror, leadership is now turning its gaze on the months ahead.

Tour pros and fans alike can expect the usual rotation of majors on schedule. The Grand Open at Durand in early June, the Churchville Classic in late June or early July, the Genesee Invitational in late August, and the FLX Cup in late September.

Tour pros and fans alike, however, did not expect the earth-shaking announcement Tuesday that two new tournaments will be added to this year’s event schedule: The Commissioner’s Cup and the Ott Shot Challenge.

The Commissioner’s Cup will take place in May 2024 at Genesee Valley Golf Course. The two-day event will be Ryder Cup Style with FLX Tour Co-Commissioner’s Matt and Shane Driffill serving as captains to draft two teams; 8 vs. 8 with two alternatives per team.

The draft date is not determined at this time, but Tour pros will be made aware of the both the draft date and the tournament dates to avoid any conflict of interest with as much advance notice as possible (for Todd). Specific rules and parameters for the event will be announced as the date approaches, according to Tour sources.

The Commissioner’s Cup will not have an entry fee or a purse for the champions, it’s strictly a contest of glory and a new chapter in the storied FLX Tour history books.

While not all Tour pros will be selected to participate in this new event, pros who are not involved are still invited to attend, caddy, or talk shit as they see fit.

“Listen, we know some pros may be upset that they won’t be selected for the Commissioner’s Cup,” said FLX Tour Co-Commissioner Shane Driffill. “While we certainly feel for them, kickstarting this tournament in 2024 will help the whipper snappers who aren’t selected to improve their game and perhaps get into the field for 2025.”

“No hard feelings to the bell ringers, but the big dogs gotta eat,” said FLX Tour Co-Commissioner Matt Driffill.

The other new tournament on the FLX Tour calendar is the Ott Shot Challenge, or more colloquially known as “The Dotty.” This event is open to all on Tour and will be a two-man modified alternative shot style tournament which will feature fun and whacky rules that commemorate our dear friend Danny Ott. Some rules may include multiple mulligans, 6 foot radius foot wedge on all fluffs, and/or just straight up shaving strokes off the final scorecard, just as our dear friend Danny would do, that motherfucker.

“It’s what Danny would do,” said FLX Tour Rulez Czar and Head of Content Joey Mortillaro. “Cheat, lie, repeat. That’s commitment to the game and love of the grind.”

The Ott Shot challenge is scheduled to take place in late July at Durand Eastman Golf Course, where Tour leadership is currently working behind the scenes to fund a memorial bench for Danny.

The Ott Shot Challenge will have a $10 entry fee per person, and $5 breakfast balls available for purchase on holes No. 1 and No. 10, as is standard for most FLX events.

In other FLX news, leadership confirmed Tuesday the approval of final designs for a new line of merchandise in honor of Danny Ott. Sources say the new merch offerings should be available on the Tour’s ETSY store by the end of the month. Note that currently the store has been emptied online to make room for the new items that will be available soon.

Lastly, FLX Tour leadership invites all the youngsters to come out for the monthly meet-up session at Shamrock Jack’s at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 25 for camaraderie and conversation. Will be a nice time.

While things on the front end of things have remained quiet for months, FLX Tour has been busy behind the scenes preparing for what is expected to be the biggest season ever for the FLX Tour. We are back. We are so back. We are indubitably back.
