Tour issues apology to those left out of FLX Cup Preview show

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (FLX) — FLX Tour officials issued a statement with an apology late Wednesday after seveal Tour pros, according to sources, were reportedly unhappy about not being mentioned or included in the Tour’s recent FLX Cup Preview program, which debuted on YouTube Wednesday afternoon.

The show, which has dozens of views as of press time, was heralded as a success by many on Tour as leadership discussed pertinent issues for the upcoming tournament, including unfavorable weather forecasts, favorites to win, darkhorses, bellringers, and more.

However, 12 minutes of video was not seen as long enough for some, as several Tour pros, according to sources, were bickering behind the scenes about their lake of representation during the program.

To nip this controversy in in the bud (because, quote “we CAN NOT handle another scandal right now,” end quote), FLX Tour officials released the following statement and video late Wednesday (video after statement):

“Dear comrades,

We hope this letter finds you in the peak of your excitement and enthusiasm as we prepare diligently for the final major of the year: The FLX Cup. We simply could not wait to address a mater of utmost importance, so we are writing this heartfelt apology with all the sincerity and remorse we are capable of mustering.

It has come to our attention that some of our colleagues on Tour have taken offense to not being included in the FLX Cup preview program, published by Tour leadership on October 11, 2023. We want to extend our most dear apologies to those who were not included in the groundbreaking, earth-shattering, and life altering video preview of our upcoming golf tournament.

We realize now how utterly inconceivable it must be for you to grasp that we, whom you all have bestowed so much trust and confidence, could commit such a heinous act. To imagine a world where we did not think to involve some of you in the creation of this masterpiece is almost beyond comprehension.

You see, we did go through each group with quick analysis and a forecast of each participant’s expectations, but frankly several things happened. Firstly, technical difficulties led to us losing a significant amount of footage. That one is on us. Our bad. Secondly, the length of the recording was getting out of control, and frankly a little boring. Lacking focus if you will. However, we are not in the business of making excuses and we must have lost our sanity to forget how important it was to all of you to be included in this iconic piece of cinema.

We can only hope that you find it within your hearts to forgive our thoughtless and inconsiderate actions. Please accept our most profound and heartfelt apologies for this tragic oversight. We promise that the next time we decide to create a video previewing our upcoming golf tournament, we will make sure to consult with each and everyone one of you to ensure that your extraordinary talent and charisma are properly showcased. Until then, we will try our best to live with the guilt of having deprived many of you of this golden opportunity.

Yours with deep remorse,

FLX Tour Leadership”

Remorse, indeed.

As of press time, we are not sure who exactly on Tour was complaining about not being featured in the program, though Twitter sleuths and fans of the Tour online have begun piecing together what they consider clues to jump to their own conclusions about the matter:

We’ll leave the reckless speculation to the FLX fans playing detective on Twitter while we focus our attention to the big tournament this Saturday at Shadow Lake where 28 young men will be in a DOG FIGHT!

We know that MAJOR WEEK always means tensions are sky high, and it’ll be interesting to see which pros can navigate the pressure of the FLX Cup, the unfavorable weather conditions, and the infighting on Tour to rise to the ocassion and HOIST THE CUP.

FIND OUT OCTOBER 14 AT 9 A.M.

Tour leadership also, once again, is urging players who have not paid their $10 entry fee to venmo @matthew-driffill as soon as possible. Pros can also purchase optional breakfast balls on holes 1 and 10 for $5 each. The proceeds of which benefit the closest-to-the-pin challenge on the par 3 hole No. 9.

Tour officials also urge participants to join the tournament, which is now live on the 18 Birdies app, the officials golf scoring app of the FLX Tour.

2023 FLX Cup Rules

  1. Finish putts no matter the distance.
  2. Play the entire course OB as red stakes. Take drop (1 stroke penalty) one club length from where the ball crossed out of play. You can not go towards the hole when dropping!
  3. Establish in your group what ball you are playing. If the ball is in a wooded area or beyond a red stake, confirm with your cart partner that your ball is yours. You may choose to play the ball as it lies if you are choosing to play out of an unfavorable area or take a drop with a drop (club length from where the ball entered the unfavorable area and a one-stroke penalty.)
  4. No “re-tees” or “3 off the tee” from the tee box. If your ball goes out of play off the tee, apply your drop where it went out.
  5. Three-minute limit rule for lost balls. Take a drop and one-stroke penalty nearest to the last seen area where your ball may have been (assistance and confirmation with group/cart partner). ZERO FREE DROPS!  Lost balls after the three minutes are up will result in a one-stroke penalty!
  6. ABSOLUTELY ZERO FREE DROPS FOR ANYONE! This is a golf tournament for money, not a Sunday with the boys. Show some respect for yourself, your colleagues on the tour, and the game.
  7. Light fluff allowed. DO NOT move the ball laterally or forward to a better angle at the hole.
  8. Club lengths near unplayable zones should be decided within the group (ball near a cart path, roped-off area, etc.)
  9. Any person(s) caught cheating within the group or violating any of the aforementioned rules will be immediately disqualified. The tournament fee is non-refundable and the player will be placed on a list for future FLX Tour major events. Further legal action may be pursued (better lawyer up bucko).
  10. Handicaps are capped at 36. Players who do not have a handicap established will receive a 36 handicap.
  11. Players will utilize 95% of their handicap for the tournament within the 18 Birdies App.
  12. Have fun and keep the pace of play!
