ROCHESTER, N.Y. (FLX) — The FLX Tour is just about a month away from the final major championship of the season and officials energized fans Monday by announcing the finalized roster for the upcoming FLX Cup.
The 28-man field ties the 2023 Genesee Invitational as the largest event in FLX history. There are a lot of familiar faces in the field. In fact, it’ll be the first event all season long where there will be no FLX debuts and all participants will be those returning to action.
Tour officials have said that instead of the random pairing and drawing for tee times, foursomes will be organized loosely based on Young Man of the Year rankings, with some exceptions for drama, pace of play, and socialization.
“The main point of that idea is to get have the final foursome as the top 4 in the Young Man of the Year rankings,” FLX Tour Co-Commissioner Matt Driffill said. “Having that in place coming up 18 with the great Shadow Lake gallery will be a lot of drama and fun.”
FLX officials say tee times and groupings will be announced in the weeks to come, but wanted first to announce the field and unveil the official event poster along with the trophy.

“It’s a beautiful poster,” Matt Driffill said as he admired his own work.

Driffill will look to defend his FLX Cup championship after winning last year’s tournament with a personal best gross score of 80, but with an expanded field and handicaps in place, it’s most definitely not going to be on his shelf after October 14th.
That didn’t stop him from breaking in the new trophy with some cheap domestic swill this past weekend:

“It’s a very handsome trophy,” FLX Tour Co-Commissioner Shane Driffill said. “I think we’re speaking for everyone on Tour when I say I really hope Matt is able to clean it thoroughly before the tournament.”
“It was a hectic few weeks with organizing tournaments and dealing with the Saudis, but all in all, we did move some ball markers, so job well done,” said FLX Tour Head of Content and Rules Czar Joey Mortillaro said.
With only one major remaining on the FLX Tour schedule, pros are sharpening their game and juicing their handicaps as best as possible. There is still more than a month before teeing off and a lot can change from now until then, but one thing is guaranteed. It will be a Very Nice Time (VNT).
