Teams, tee times announced for 2023 Genesee Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (FLX) — Drama unfolded Thursday as FLX Tour leaders hosted a live drawing for teams and tee times for the upcoming Genesee Invitational.

The two-man best ball tournament takes place Sunday, August 27 at the world famous Genesee Valley Golf Course, boasting the largest field in FLX Tour history.

Attendance for the live stream for the pairings draw was lackluster, but Tour officials remain adamant that the newly launched GroupMe channel will be in play, whether people like it or not.

“Did we have as many people as we’d like on the livestream? No,” said FLX Tour co-commissioner Shane Driffill. “We went through a lot of effort to make it fun. We had silly outfits, two hats with all the names, lot of jokes … Matt even had NFL Films playlist running in the background for dramatic effect. People would’ve liked it if they just gave it a try.”

Despite the lackluster appearances from Tour pros, the livestream went off without a hitch. There were a lot of laughs, and Mike Mortillaro even showed some skin. Anyways, here are the following teams and tee times for the third FLX Tour major of the season.

10 a.m.Tom Deiure & Mike MortillaroJoey Mortillaro & Jack Burns
10:10 a.m.Danny Ott & Steve NallyAl Gray & Alex M. Dooley

Wow! That’s a lot of man-slamming action!

Our eyes immediately gaze upon the 10:10 pairing of Al Gray and Alex M. Dooley, who will repeat as teammates after becoming fan favorites at the 2023 Churchville Classic. They kept the bloody mary’s flowing and the cooler iced down, earning the favor of FLX fans everywhere.

“GRAY AND DOOLEY RIDE AGAIN!” FLX Tour co-commissioner Matt Driffill said.

Team “Stocked Cooler’s” road to stardom will not be unchallenged however. Other favorites in the field include Sean Sawyer and Patrick Moynihan. Sawyer, the No. 1 ranked player on Tour currently, is still seeking his first FLX major championship after winning in gross score for the first two majors of the year, but ultimately falling in net to some sand bagging mother fuckers.

Not to be unnoticed is also “Uncle Chris” Miers and his teammate, FLX Tour director of vibes Brandon Moynihan. Miers boasts the lowest handicap on the FLX Tour, but is still seeking that elusive major victory.

Though Sawyer and Uncle Chris are always going to command attention, fans will also be following closely the team of Danny Driffill and Brier Koroly. Koroly was a dark horse victor at this year’s Grand Open while Danny Driffill earned his second FLX major championship at this year’s Churchville Classic.

“I really just gotta sell some of these ball markers,” FLX Tour head of content Joey Mortillaro keeps saying to himself.

The drawing was split with half of the field with the lowest handicaps in one hat and the other half with the higher handicaps in the other to ensure an even playing field. To further enhance the fairness of the tournament, FLX Tour officials announced that they will incorporate a 90% handicap for each participant, as is the USGA reccomended standard for a two-man best ball tournament.
