FLX Tour’s largest field ever for 2023 Genesee Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (FLX) — A historic day for the FLX Tour Thursday as officials announced a finalized 28-man field for the upcoming Genesee Invitational.

The Tour’s third major championship of the season boasts the largest event roster in FLX history, topping the previous record by a whole foursome.

“Grow the game,” FLX tour co-commissioner Shane Driffill said. “If we’re serious about that Saudi money, and we are, we have to keep raising the bar. We’re confident this event is the next neccesary step on our path to acquiring that blood money we so desperately seek.”

The 2023 Genesee Invitational is set to take place Sunday, August 27 at the world famous Genesee Valley Golf Course with the first group scheduled to tee off at 9:10 a.m.

The Genny Invitational is a two-man best ball tournament, which calls for each player on each team to play every shot as if the whole round is single’s format, but the team will take the best score on each hole from each player.

A livestream will soon be held to draw teams for this year’s event, and that will be made available through the Tour’s official GroupMe channel. For this year’s drawing, the field will be split into two hats, with the 14 lowest handicaps in one hat and the 14 highest in another, ensuring the fairest pairings as possible (see below for hat table).

“Leadership believes this is the best foot forward in terms of equity and equality,” FLX Tour co-commissioner Matt Driffill just wrote. “We are firm believers that the Saudi regime is fair and just, and if we can reflect that with our Tour, perhaps they will finally partner with us.” It should be noted that Matt Driffill suspiciously rubbed his hands together like a greedy cartoon character as he was saying this aloud in his work office.

Another wrinkle for equality in the event, all players will have their official 18 Birdies handicaps adjusted to 90% of their total for this tournament, as is the USGA reccomendation for a two-man best ball format.

With several newcomers making their FLX Tour season debut, and familiar faces jockeying for position in the coveted Young Man of the Year rankings, this is sure to be one of the most electrifying events in FLX Tour history.

“I really gotta sell some more of these ball markers,” said FLX Tour Head of Content Joey Mortillaro, although no one asked for comment. “I’m sitting on a pile of these fucking things.”

Here is a list of the young men who will be competing at this year’s Genesee Invitational (sorted by current YMOTY rankings):
