Meet the Pros: Gene Ferrera

We’re back once again with FLX Tour’s Meet the Pros!

How about this edition with Gene Ferrera! A seasoned Tour veteran still seeking his first major championship, but a number of respectable finishes keep Ferrera coming back for more (except for this year’s Grand Open, just don’t worry about that one). Few will remember, but the FLX Tour roots strech back to the spring of 2009 when Ferrera joined Tour Commissioners Shane and Matt Driffill on the SUNY Brockport Club Golf team. They haven’t gotten much better since then, but they’re still swinging the hammer. Let’s get to know Gene!

Name

— Gene Ferrera

Birthday

— November 4, 1990 (year of the horse)

FLX Tour Nickname

— Minghia how many times I gotta tell ya …. Mean Gene.

How long can you hit your driver?

— That’s a personal question.

What is your current handicap?

— I round up my 22.6 to 23

Who is your FLX Tour rival?

— Todd Horne. Don’t read too far into this. Shaq and Kobe found a way to win together (Gene and Todd are paired up as a team for the upcoming Churchville Classic).

What’s your favorite course?

— Latta Lea Par 3

What’s your least favorite course?

— Blue Heron

Which three people would you choose for your dream foursome?

— Kim Jong-il would be my scramble partner against Tiger and John Daly. Kim and I would give them several strokes.

What’s your dream achievement as an FLX Tour pro?

— Win a major. Just once god damnit, god damnit!

What’s your career best score on 18 holes and what course was it?

— 88 at Blue Heron. Before everything starts throwing asterisks … 1) Fuck off. 2) Longtime Tour stalwart and past champion Joey Mortillaro was present for the round so you can blow me, OK pal?

What advice would you give to any youngsters out there dreaming of one day playing on the Tour?

— Don’t end up like me. Stay away from wasting countless hours on YouTube and just hit the fucking ball. Fuckin’ Rick Shiels. Please, please, listen to me.

How would you rate your experience on the FLX Tour out of 10?

— Minghia no comment box for this question? Just a rating? Seems suspicious. I’ll give Matt Putin his 8 trophies and let him control the narrative I suppose

8/10

Must be 4th of July season because how about those fireworks! Big thanks to Mean Gene for taking the time to let us get to know him a little better. Must’ve been tough for him to pull away from watching “How To Fix Your Slice In 3 East Steps” for the 47th time today. Editors here will note that we enjoyed his colorful candor on these responses, as we expected with such a character. Until next time!
